Falls from height remain the single biggest cause of fatal accidents in the workplace. For lone workers who operate in dangerous environments this poses a real danger to their safety.

Man Down Alert enables you to monitor your employees in high risk environments. It provides instant alerts, real time location tracking and more.
How it works

Lone workers can be at risk from any number of situations that can lead to them becoming incapacitated or unable to reach their team members to call for help. It might be a road incident where they are trapped in a car or under a heavy object, it could be a health issue such as heart problems or epilepsy that causes them to collapse or become unconscious or it might be a work-related accident that leaves them injured and immobile.

Man Down alert is designed to prevent this scenario from occurring by ensuring that users are not left unnoticed and without assistance. It works by using a combination of an accelerometer and a Man Down sensor to detect a fall or a lack of movement. If the alarm is triggered, the user will be sent a digital alert to a trusted person in their team or to an ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre) that is designed to receive and process these kinds of incidents.

To activate the system, users will either enable it by default when they first power up their radios or they may be required to manually set it up by pressing a function key such as the emergency stop button. Once enabled, a Man Down alarm will be triggered if the device isn’t moved for a pre-programmable time or if it becomes tilted beyond a set angle that is preset by the administrator.
It’s easy to install

Man Down Alarm allows lone workers to be rescued quickly by a team of people who can assess the situation and dispatch medical care to the worker’s location. The device can be configured to align with organizational procedures and work team environments and combined with other worker safety features such as Lone Worker and Location Services to ensure that a rapid response is given in the event of a serious incident.

Many lone workers are likely to be in situations that could lead to them falling down or becoming incapacitated at some point. Although lone workers can be trained to identify and remove fall hazards from their work environment it is not always practical for them to do this when they are in client homes, construction zones or travelling between appointments. Man Down Alert is an easy-to-use, reliable solution that can monitor these risks and notify a live monitoring team to send assistance if required.

The device is set up by the lone worker using an app on their phone. The alarm is calibrated to detect movement or lack of movement and can be set for a period of between 3 minutes and 1 hour. If the worker doesn’t move within this timeframe an alarm will sound allowing them to check in and verify they are OK (avoids false alarms). If the user is still unresponsive then the system can automatically send an alert to the monitoring centre to contact first responders to the lone worker’s location.
It’s easy to use

If an employee is incapacitated they can trigger a man down alarm using the large SOS button which can be configured to activate on a single press or a long press of between 1 and 5 seconds (configurable). The device will also activate if there’s no movement detected over a period of time. This will then send an alert to the Bodytrak Dashboard and via SMS and email, letting supervisors or co-workers know that immediate assistance is required.

Once the device is activated it will start dialing the pre-defined emergency contact numbers on your list in a priority sequence. It will also automatically display the GPS location of the worker, allowing emergency responders to pinpoint their exact location. This is a feature that can be combined with lone worker location services to help emergency response teams find a downed employee even faster.

A man down alarm can be an essential tool for high risk workers, including those who work at height (e.g. electricians, window cleaners or roofers), those who work in public-facing roles, and those who operate in remote environments. Without the benefit of co-workers within close proximity, these employees are unable to rely on someone else to notice if they become incapacitated or unable to speak for themselves. Man down alarms remove this uncertainty and give them the peace of mind that their employer will take action if they become inactive for too long.
It’s affordable

No matter how comprehensive your health and safety policies are, accidents, sudden illness or attacks on lone workers can still happen. In these situations, a Man Down Alarm can provide peace of mind and the knowledge that someone will always be available to help if needed.

The device is programmed to detect non-movement and automatically sends an alert based on the settings set. It can either call the designated emergency contact or send the lone worker’s device location to a 24/7 monitoring centre ? known as an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) ? that will work with the user to ensure their safety and that appropriate response is organised.

For lone workers who are at risk of falls, working at heights or those with specific medical conditions that could lead to fainting episodes (such as heart problems or epilepsy), a Man Down Alarm can be invaluable. For less than the price of a cup of coffee per day, you can give each of your team members this extra layer of protection that can help keep them safe and ensure they have access to the support they need.
