Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and a growing global demand.

Our service is able to offer private ADHD titration as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments are free and include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly experienced psychiatrist consultant will conduct a thorough evaluation of your ADHD. This includes an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the common ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your examination, you will be informed whether medication is appropriate for your particular situation. This will happen at your follow-up appointment (which could be in person by video link, in person or via phone). Your clinician will discuss the various medication options available. If you decide to start taking medication, we can help you the opportunity to increase your dosage to ensure the best balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process can take a few weeks and involves gradually adjusting your child's dosage until the appropriate balance is reached. It's not uncommon to to titrate up to three different medications before you find the one that best suits your child's ADHD. It's important for parents to take part in this process of titration, and keep an eye on their child's behaviour so that they can inform the doctor if the medicine is helping or causing side effects.

If you decide to return to NHS care the medication you take will be given as a prescription from a private pharmacy that you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You must attend every six months to check your medication - this includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also mandatory.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment is completed after the assessment is completed, you can make follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. Usually the appointment will take place via a zoom video call but in certain circumstances it is possible to have an audio only consultation (again at an additional cost).

At this point we will discuss treatment options and agree upon a bespoke individualised ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include a review of your medication dosage and an examination of any negative side effects you may be experiencing. https://www.iampsychiatry.uk/private-adult-adhd-titration/ cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 via video or telephone consultation. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will also ask you about your family background and the impact your ADHD symptoms have on your life, including any issues with relationships you may be facing or any other mental health issues you might be experiencing. This is due to the fact that ADHD is an inheritable condition, and it is important that we assess any family history that could indicate whether you are at risk of developing the disorder.

It is important that you are honest and truthful with the clinician during the assessment, since the information they get will be used to determine whether your ADHD is in line with the diagnostic criteria. This is a crucial part of the process, as failing to do so could lead to an inaccurate diagnosis and consequently an inappropriate prescription of medication.

If you have decided that you would like to receive treatment for your ADHD We will set up a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialise in this area. This can be done within the first few days of your diagnosis if are eager to begin treatment right away or within two weeks if want to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the alternatives available to you.

If you are unsure of which one you prefer it is recommended that you speak with your GP prior to scheduling your private assessment as some providers have different policies about whether they require an GP referral letter or not. We also suggest to check if your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement which means that once discharged from the clinic, you will be referred back to them for the prescription for medication.

Medication

For many who wish to obtain an official diagnosis of ADHD medication is a crucial aspect of their journey. It can be difficult to get prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.

Requesting your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry UK and ADHD 360). You can select a provider that offers a private assessment service and titration. This can help you reduce time and be more convenient, especially in the event of a hectic work schedule.

If you are referred through this route the doctor you choose will examine you and decide whether or not you require to be titrated on medication. You'll need to fill out forms that vary by doctor, but the most common ones are self-reporting questionnaires and medical histories that go to childhood and adulthood. These forms will help your clinician determine if there are any reasons that suggest that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medication, even when they've been prescribed.

If you are being titrated on medication, this will usually be a combination of stimulants and non-stimulant medications. These will be carefully trialled and monitored to determine the most effective combination for you, taking into account any existing conditions you have. The process of titration can be lengthy and may need several additional appointments before you're stable on your dose.

Depending on the kind of medication you're taking, follow-up appointments could be scheduled monthly or quarterly. This will include your physician making sure that you are taking the correct medication, recording any side effects you've experienced and making any necessary adjustments to ensure that you're on a dose that is safe. You'll also be required to attend a routine health check which can include blood pressure, pulse and weight readings as well as an annual check-up.

Some people may be satisfied with their medication, and don't need to discuss their titration further. If you're required to discuss your titration plan or treatment plan more thoroughly it is possible that you'll be referred back to the private clinic who made your initial assessment. In this instance, the titration will be included in the consultation fee. The medication will then be given via the private prescription. This could cost more than a prescription from the NHS, as the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
