Twilight Princess Game Review

The darkest and most serious of the Nintendo 3D Zelda games, Twilight Princess pushes the limits of graphics to the limit on the Wii's hardware. It's darker and more unsettling than The Wind Waker. There are no bug-eyed pigs or effeminate Pirates.

Link is dragged into a parallel dimension called Twilight Realm, where he assumes the form of an Hylian and a wolf while being guided by Midna.

Gameplay

The thirteenth installment of The Legend of Zelda is Twilight Princess. It was released for the Nintendo GameCube and Wii systems in 2006. Reviewers praised the game with perfect scores in various publications such as 1UP CVG EGM and GamesRadar. Many consider it to be the best game in the franchise and also the most well-known Zelda title on the PAL market.

Twilight princess has naturalistic and stylized graphics style, like that of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask with a much more advanced graphic engine. http://anantsoch.com/members/airhour38/activity/878121/ is the first game in the series to have an entirely directional motion control system, instead of a fixed view like the previous games. This change was made to accommodate the Wii console's pointing-based interface. The GameCube version of the game features an area in the back that contains mirror-image maps to those who prefer a fixed view.

When entering the Twilight Realm, Link is transformed into a wolf, and then meets Midna, the mysterious creature. She reveals to Link that the kingdom of Hyrule is now under the control of a group of shadow beasts led the evil sorcerer Zant. She also reveals that she is the real ruler of Twili but was taken over by Zant and cursed to her current form.

A short cutscene shows the soldiers being slain by shadow beasts when Link and Midna reach Hyrule Castle. Then, Link and Midna escape from the castle by a tunnel, and enter the Twilight Realm.

Link can move more freely in the Twilight Realm by using his wolf form. He can also use his senses to navigate the world. For example, he can sense the spirits of dead soldiers and other animals in the distance. He can also whistle and pick grass from specific patches to summon an animal such as the Hawk, Epona or other. Or, Link can howl near these patches to summon the same animal.

Twilight Princess is no different from previous Zelda titles in the sense that music plays an important role. Link can play instruments that are musical, such as the flute or harp, to attract and call upon different animals. He can also command the wolf's form through his voice. He can also use his compass as a guide to help him navigate the world.

Characters

The Legend of Zelda series is full of vibrant characters that leave an unforgettable impression on players. From hands coming out of toilets to pirates traveling across vast oceans these unique and imaginative characters are the core of the game. Twilight Princess continues in the tradition of the previous games, and introduces an array of memorable characters.

Link is introduced to new NPCs throughout the story, who are not only interesting but also believable. It's a major step in the right direction to have many of these NPCs actually play a role in the story instead of simply being there as victims. NPCs such as Rusl who declares that the forest is becoming more dangerous now and kidnaps kids as well as the Ordon villager who disguises himself as a wolf while the children are being kidnapped all have unique personalities.

Other notable characters are Iza who manages the Boat Rental Caf in Lanayru Province and Iza's rapid ride, Louise Telma’s cat, who assists Wolf Link find a secret way into the castle via her bar, sewer system, and Faron whose spirit guides Link to the Forest Temple in Eldin Province. The duo defeats the Fused Shadow possessed by Diababa and receives the first Tear of Light.

Midna the princess of the Twilight Realm, is also one of the most fascinating characters in the game. She is able to switch between her human and wolf forms and possesses a piece of the Triforce of Wisdom. She befriends Link and shares with him her experiences in the twilight and how she defeated Zant, the king of Twilight.

Zant is the evil sorcerer who controls the Twilight Realm. He possesses the second part of the Triforce of Wisdom. The goddesses relegated him to the Twilight Realm for enslaving their people and taking over their territory. Midna removes Zant's power, permitting him to transform into his human form when needed.

Epona is a better horse that can be ridden in both Wolf and Hylian forms. Link can whistle near certain patches of grass to summon the animal. (similar to Majora’s Mask). The player is able to name the horse and customize the horse, making Twilight Princess the first time in the series that a player can personalize their own horse.

Theme

Music is an important part of any Zelda game. It can make a game seem vast exciting, expansive, and captivating. However, Twilight Princess is criticized for its erratic and unreliable soundtrack that doesn't convey the emotional impact of certain moments. Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and other games have captivating music that explode at the right moment to create a sense of grandness and eerie.

Toru Minegishi and Asuka Ohta were the composers for the music and sound design in Twilight Princess, with Koji Kondo overseeing the series's composers for the first time since Wind Waker. The soundtrack for Twilight Princess is a bold departure from the standard approach to the series, with an approach that is minimalist in terms of melody and arrangement. The majority of music from dungeons and fields begins with a single instrument, creating a mysterious and atmospheric atmosphere for the player. Midna's Lament, for example is a song that uses a keyboard to create a sense of sadness for the player.

The themes of dungeons are the most prominent examples of this trend towards minimalism, with numerous dungeons featuring a dreary and dark atmosphere. This is most evident in Twilight Realm, which has an unsettling soundscape that could be found in the soundtrack of a David Lynch movie. The ominous and unsettling nature of the track is amplified by the lack of recognisable melody and traditional arrangement, with dreary drones and bizarre patterns intertwining to create a dark and bleak sound.

A more upbeat and joyful song is Link's hometown, "Faron Woods." This tune uses various soft sounds and stringed instruments to create an idyllic feeling of safety and peace for the player. The song is a subtle nod to the most famous scene in the franchise as it features an melody that is reminiscent of the famous melody that plays at the Ocarina of Time's beginning.

There are also some exciting songs in Twilight Princess that change depending on the location of the player, what they are doing, and what's going on. For example, the Hyrule Castle Town theme has distinct versions for each area of the town and Central Square being the most popular. Central Square having a more energetic and full version of the song. These variations are a nice feature that adds a sense of depth and immersion to the world of Hyrule.

Story

The story of Twilight Princess revolves around Link trying to prevent Hyrule from being engulfed by the corrupted parallel dimension referred to as the Twilight Realm. To accomplish this, he assumes the form of both a Hylian and an Wolf and is being assisted by a woman called Midna.

Midna is the original ruler of the Twili, but she was overthrown by Zant and cursed into her imp form. The Sages of the Old Testament explain to Link and Midna that only the defeat of Ganondorf can remove them from their curse. The Sages then reveal that the Mirror of Twilight is the source of the darkness that exists in the Twilight Realm. Midna and Link journey to the Spirit's Spring where they encounter predatory creatures that kidnap children. With Wolf Link's sharp sense of smell, they follow the kids' scent to a bridge, and then enter the Twilight Realm.

They enter the Forest Temple, battle Diababa and get the first Fused Shadow. Faron informs them of the next destination, which is the Eldin Province in the west (Wii) or east (GCN).

Midna at the Lakebed Temple of Lanayru teleports Link to a fiery stone and unleashes her power on the ice beneath Lake Hylia. The spirit of Rutela, the recently deceased Zora Queen, Rutela, then appears and tells Link that he has to visit the Lakebed Temple in order to access a treasure of the Zora.

Twilight Princess allows you to ride Epona, the horse from Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask. Unlike the set name used in the two previously mentioned games, Link can now decide the horse's name himself.

After arriving in the Twilight Realm, Midna and Link are able to retrieve the remaining Mirror Shards. The Sages reveal to Midna that she is the true ruler of the Twili. She was passed over for the monarchy, and was relegated to an ego-driven god. The Sages tell them that they will only be defeated by Ganondorf if they bring him to light and break the pact between the Twilight kingdom and the Hyrule kingdom.
